In the modern calendar, it takes the earth approximately 365 days and six hours to make a complete revolution around the sun. Every four years, an extra 24 hours has then accumulated, and one extra day is added to keep the calendar current with the earth’s position around the sun. Leap Day, February 29th, is that once-every-four-years day, and it happens to also be a birthday celebration for many people.
So what do you do if you are born on leap day? Well, most Leaplings (people born on a February 29) will celebrate on February 28 or March 1, which ever is most convenient for the celebration.
