According to The Toledo Blade’s online site The Homicide Report, there were 48 metro area homicides in 2011, 38 of which were in the Toledo area alone. One must ask, what has happened to this city? Toledo has gone from the headquarters for four or five fortune 500 companies sixty years ago to being lucky if they house one. The economy is is dire straights, our police force is short handed and response time for 911 is in the gutter.
What can be done to save Toledo? One must ask themselves who have they been electing in office? Well, Toledo has a magnificant track record of voting for the name. Is this helping the crime situation? I think not. Now that the Carty “yes” man, former Chief Mike Navarre is out, what will become of our force and the fight to take our grand city back?
For starters, join your local neighborhood watch. There is an old saying, “It takes a village to raise a child” and that still holds true even more so today with the absent parent problem. Children are left home alone after school because it now takes two incomes to run a home. Schools also love lunchroom monitor and playground monitor volunteers.
Instead of grumbling and complaining, ask yourself how are you helping?
