I’ve recently been given the opportunity to stretch out nearly the entire Toyota lineup with a series of virtual point of view test drive reviews. We hauled ace nearly every place we went, and each vehicle responded with the same ammount of performance oriented poise you would expect from an icon JDM manufacturer. This was much bigger than just test driving a few vehicles; I pushed the limit everytime to see what a Toyota can really do.
One speeding ticket and a few complaints later, I can safely assure you that if you want your Toyota to move – it will move. I don’t normally drive like such an arse, but for these reviews I wanted to see how far a Toyota could be pushed if left completely stock. I really drove these things hard and they were always willing to perform. Everyone knows that a Toyota can get good gas mileage – but not everyone understands just how fast these vehicles be in addition to being savvy with fuel mileage.
This is great news for the performance community as this expiriment has shown that you can indeed have performance and fuel economy simultaneously throughout an entire vehicle lineup. SUV, sedan, compact, micro, truck – it doesn’t matter. With proper engineering, all vehicles should be able to perform both efficiently and supply performance upon driver’s demand. Toyota has apparantly noticed this value in vehicles and pushed their engineers in that direction. Well, rest assured that what they are doing works! These cars haul *** and sip gas, plain and simple.
2012 Toyota Corolla S

The Toyota Corolla S is fast, but it is tough to percieve its quickness unless you watch the speedometer and notice the speed of corner navigation. They take off quick, but you really can’t tell inside of the cabin. If you watch the surrounding vehicles, that is a good guide to measure just how fast and efficient the Toyota Corolla S is in reality.
Powered by a 1.8 liter inline four cylinder engine, the 2012 Toyota Corolla S makes good use of dual-overhead cams and variable valve timing technology. Creating 132 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 128 foot pounds of torque at a very low 4,400 RPM, the 2,800 pound fox moves swiftly through any obstacle. Rated at 26 miles per gallon in the city and 34 on the highway, the Corolla S offers both performance and fuel economy in the same vehicle.
The car is quick from factory, but to bring out the rest of this vehicle’s capabilities consider adding aftermarket suspension, forced induction, and replacing body panels with carbon fiber. With the vehicle starting out at just 2,800 pounds, the addition of increased power through a turbocharger combined with an estimated 200 pound weight reduction savings (still retaining AC!), the 2012 Toyota Corolla S is a tuner’s toy just waiting to happen. It won’t run with the AWD’s from a dig, but I suspect from a 40+ roll it would do just fine.
For those seeking advice on boosting this vehicle, I recommend you change to a lower compression ratio piston, preferably forged; and upgrade the fuel system accordingly. Although it is a 1.8, the gears are long enough for a bigger turbo such as a Garrett GT30 or hybrid style small compressor housing – big billet wheel to reduce lag and still provide adequate CFM. The power band in this car is sick – watch the POV video and see for yourself.
2012 Toyota 4Runner Limited

The 2012 Toyota 4Runner Limited is an amazing vehicle. Luxurious yet capable, I can see this creature sludging through the swamps on 33″ mud tires with no problem – thus living up to the true 4Runner legacy. Will it defeat sand? A 270 horsepower 4.0 liter V6 with insanely massive heads coupled to a 4,800 pound SUV with 9.6″ of clearance laughs in the face of Capt. Sugarsand! Snow? Say hello to the vehicular excorcism of the abominable snowman.
This is a legit off road machine and I know it to be true because with every machine there is a warning label. Here is the one for the 2012 4Runner as seen here: “The Toyota 4Runner is designed to meet most off-road driving requirements. Abusive use may result in bodily harm or damage. Toyota encourages responsible operation to protect you, your vehicle and the environment.” Ohhhhhhh-yeah! Snap into a 4Runner little man!
If the 4×4, backwoods skunk ape lifestyle isn’t for you, the 4Runner still offers incredible passenger volume and impressive fuel economy for those looking to refrain from soiling those sassy $400 bluejeans. For those into saving terra firma and the worship of endangered species, fuel enthusiasts will appreciate the little green dummy light that pops on when you are getting good gas mileage. Yay, you are saving planet earth! Press the gas pedal down too far, and Mr. Good-Green-Light will go away. If that light turns off, consider it the moral homology of slaying penguins and gunning down Mother Nature like radioactive terrorist.
Aside from the mud-muck and nerd review, the new age 4Runner enthusiast will also enjoy the more refined side of this 4×4 legend and appreciate its more urbanesque qualities found throughout. Do you wish to load up the 4Runner with multimedia devices, lavish wheels, and fancy interior appointments? The stitch patterns found within the leather are perfect for offering an exciting two-tone customization factor. Need a loud stereo? The rear hatch design is that of amplification and increased depth.
No matter what genre of performance enthusiast you may be, you will find pleasure behind the wheel of the new 4Runner. I did, check out the POV video “2012 Toyota 4Runner test drive review” and see for yourself.

Special thanks to Sun Toyota of Holiday, Florida!
I wouldn’t have had this great opportunity if it wasn’t for Sun Toyota and their willingness to share some of Toyota’s fine products with me for official review. Over the past few months test driving Toyota vehicles I’ve come to know many of the faces in this dealership. Every last one of them always will greet you with a smile and treat you with the professionalism you deserve. They are a great dealership, family owned, and I urge you to check them out.
