Every stray has a tale. Stories of abuse, neglect and carelessness thrust upon them by mankind and their caregivers. Stories that would break our hearts. But in every stray there is an unconquerable hope. Hope for a happy ending to their plight, hope for finding a warm loving home and having all of their physical and emotional needs met.
Such is the story of Hope a Red Nosed Pitbull found roaming the streets of Fort Pierce, Florida. Hope was appropriately named by a kind hearted good samaritan named Iris Lambka that found her and took her in. Hope was grossly underweight and covered with mange. It was obvious her previous owner had no interest in keeping or caring for her. Iris did not want to take Hope to animal services because she knew all too well the tragic fate that awaited her there.
Iris took the responsibility of vetting, spaying, and micro-chipping Hope. She also tried valiantly to find a permanent home for her. When Iris was no longer able to physically care for Hope she relinquished her to a no kill shelter called Dogs and Cats Forever in Fort Pierce, Florida. At the shelter Hope was well cared for and loved. She blossomed into a beautiful fifty pound healthy girl who loves people, loves playing with her toys and loves playing ball. She is still waiting for someone to reach out and give her a chance at a forever home.
But Hope is just one of the eight million dogs and cats that will end up in shelters across the nation. Roughly half of them will be euthanized.
You can help dogs like Hope by adopting from animal shelters, avoiding purchasing pets from pet stores, supporing mandatory spay and neutering laws in your state and reporting animal neglect to local authorities.
Let’s all continue to fight the good fight and never give up on Hope.
