ABC just revealed the date of the cast announcement for season fourteen of Dancing with the Stars. The network surprised everyone by stating that it would not reveal the new cast on The Bachelor as expected, but would do so on Tuesday, February 28th on Good Morning America. The highly anticipated announcement will take place live from the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood and airs exclusively on GMA, which has close ties to DWTS. Just last season, GMA threw an end-of-season, on-air party for all of the finalists.
So, what’s in store for the new season of glitter and glamour on Dancing with the Stars? ABC promises that the announcement will be packed with big surprises. Early season 14 cast rumors include Paula Dean, Stevie Wonder, Kris Jenner, Taylor Armstrong, Pee-wee Herman and Perez Hilton. Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba are all returning, as are hosts Tom Bergeron and past competitor Brooke Burke. Carrie Ann co-hosted Live with Kelly yesterday and said that she is excited about the new season. She also showed off her huge engagement ring. Interestingly enough, Inaba got the surprise of her life on Live last March when her boyfriend, Jesse Sloan popped the question on air (see video on left). Talk about live drama!
War hero and soap star J.R. Martinez was crowned last season’s winner of Dancing with the Stars. He and partner Karina Smirnoff narrowly defeated Rob Kardashian and partner Cheryl Burke. Ricki Lake and Derek Hough came in third place.
Can season fourteen continue the success of Dancing with the Stars, which consistently does well in the ratings for ABC. In order to do so, it will have to include lots of drama and scatter in a few shocking moments. Speaking of shocking moments on DWTS, here are the Top 10 from the past thirteen seasons.
- Marie Osmond faints in season five.
- Sabrina Bryan is shockingly eliminated in season six.
- Christian de la Fuente ruptures a tendon during season six.
- Donny Osmond smooches Bruno Tonioli in season nine.
- Brandy gets eliminated, Bristol Palin moves on to the finals in season 11.
- Misty May-Treanor withdraws from season seven due to a tendon injury.
- Jewel and Nancy O’Dell suffer pre-season injuries and withdraw before season eight starts. They’re replaced by Holly Madison and Melissa Rycroft.
- Kelly Osbourne turns into a shining swan during season eight.
- The swine flu attacks the cast during season nine.
- Master P replaces son Romeo during season two.
