The Connect system delivers cutting edge technology and innovation integrated into an intuitive interface, now available on Audi’s latest model lines. Audi Connect provides an advanced suite of services to enhance the driving experience.
Originally launched in the 2012 A6 and A7, then later introduced in the 2012 Q7 and A8, Audi is looking to spread its Connect system to the rest of the lineup. Expect to see Audi Connect on select 2013 models, followed by more debuts in 2014.
Audi Connect highlights the brand as the world’s first fully web-connected car manufacturer. The Connect system introduces new smart technologies in the automobile, including a Google Earth enhanced navigation system. Google Earth navigation allows accurate views of topographical map technology, including 3D aerial images.
Audi Connect also features various online services that will allow access to real time weather, gas prices, news outlets, and landmarks for travel. The weather application also integrates (an industry first) precipitation radar, which is continuously updated because of online connectivity. Gas prices are updated daily, and will post all regular gas prices initially, which can be sorted by lowest price. News feeds download from various sources, being updated every hour, and include World, US, Local, and yes, even Audi news. Travel landmarks post pictures of various locations and offer a quick summarization of the particular landmark, or area.
Other online services include Online Destinations integrated in the navigation system, which will allow a Google search of specific locations, and points of interest in detail. The feature also displays photos and detailed information about the specified search, including ratings by Google.
Audi Connect also allows users to connect up to eight mobile devices through the systems Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity. The feature provides passengers with a unique access point, name, and password. Only users inside the vehicle can utilize this feature. Pairing of devices includes any device, which offers a Wi-Fi connection, and pairing devices only take a few moments.
Connect is powered by a SIM card provided by T-Mobile, which allows users to utilize various online functionality via an LTE high-speed network. T-Mobile offers a 6-month free trial subscription at time of sign up, and charges approximately $30 a month for the services depending on data usage.
Once again, Audi is leading the way of technological advancement through innovation. Audi plans on adding more updates to the system in the future, and will soon offer this technology across its complete line of products.
