The Royal wedding in Miami
The web is still all abuzz with news of the Queen of Soul’s upcoming nuptials to longtime beau, William ‘Willie’ Wilkerson. Wilkerson, who Franklin refers to as her ‘forever friend’ have been together since at least 1987 when they were featured on the cover of Jet Magazine. The 69 year old singer/actress got engaged over the holidays and gave no reason as to why they decided to marry now only stating, “No. I’m not pregnant.”
Preliminary reports state that Franklin is choosing between Valentino, Donna Karen and everybody’s favorite wedding dress designer to the stars, Vera Wang. Franklin will undoubtedly look great in her dress considering that she just lost a whopping 85 lbs after a health scare of an undisclosed nature plagued her last year.
So where are the possible places Ms. R-E-S-P-E-C-T might be getting married? There’s always the ever popular, Fontainebleau. Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat tied the knot there in July of 2011, holding a 3-day wedding spectacular. The hotel has also been home to many lavish events in Miami including the Victoria Secrets Fashion Show in 2008.
However the thing that makes it an ideal location is that its situated inches away from the Intracoastal waterways in Miami Beach. Franklin has already confirmed that she will have a private reception on a yacht. If she chooses the Fontainebleau, the guests of her wedding would only have to cross the street to board a yacht for a private reception on the seas.
It’s also quite possible that the Queen of Soul and the wedding party will board the private yacht, travel to a private island and exchange vows there. Miami Yacht Charters offers a service like this, staging weddings on Star Island, Fisher Island and Vizcaya Castle. Afterwards guest could board the yacht again to dance the night away.
There are no further details on the wedding except that it will be in June or July. This will be the 3rd marriage for Franklin. She was previously married to Ted White for 6 years and actor Glynn Turman (The Wire) for 8 years.
Speaking of Star Island, it seems that Rosie O’Donnell was all set to party the night away at P. Diddy’s Ciroc party in the infamous locale when she was turned away by security because she brought six people in tow. O’Donnell left quietly but her host was unaware that she was ever there.
According to the New York Post, Diddy was oblivious to the incident at the time but his rep confirmed the account citing that he felt “terrible” about the occurrence especially since O’Donnell was originally invited to the party.
We’re sure he’ll find some way to make it up to her in classic Diddy style. This whole thing might work out well for O’Donnell after all.
