There are many movements happening in our culture all the time. You see it everyday here in Los Angeles with people on the streets approaching you promoting a cause or a service or requesting a written signature to take action towards a better future and better life for tomorrow. Many of you are probably approached several times a week if you walk anywhere in the city or shop at Whole Foods or other high walking traffic areas. They have animal activists, environmental activists, gay rights activists, and many more all passionate about serving their cause.
What about Self Advocacy? Who are the self activists? What movement exists that promotes the importance of honoring, respecting, and loving the self? I have yet to see anyone standing on the corner asking me to sign a course of action in support of believing in ourselves and choosing to end self sacrifice. This would make an incredible tomorrow.
If everyone dedicated energy and time in their life to embrace their inner beauty. If everyone strengthened their intuitive muscle to improve their own personal confidence. How incredible things would improve if each of you took responsibility for your own emotions, actions, and word choice in each and every moment of your day. To step into a new power – personal power that would be your leader in self advocacy. A personal power that is inside of you that listens to your inner truth and believes in you. This personal power combined with your intuition, your pureness of intention, and your truth and passions – you ARE your own self advocate.
What an incredible concept – to choose self love. To promote self love, inspire self love in yourself and others. But how? How can one become a self activist? I dedicate this column to sharing with you the many layers and steps involved in choosing self advocacy. It starts with one simple step.
I know that seems basic. How many of you truly take the time to just be quiet? Get quiet with yourself for at least 5 minutes a day. Turn off everything – including your mouth and your mind. Start there as a means to begin the process of becoming a self activist. The future will be incredibly bright when one day it is you or me standing on that corner with a sheet of paper asking others who walk by to support an incredible cause. When we are asking others to support and value— themselves. When we are receiving signatures from individuals who are making the statement to be their own self advocate and are choosing to donate money and time to the much needed world-wide cause of Self-Love.
