‘Being Human’ on BBC America, which aired February 25, started off with a bang and never really lets up, going back and forth between the present and the future.
The show starts off in the future 2037 and it looks like the vampires have taken over the world, with a few pockets of resistance.
Then it goes back to the present where we learn that Nina was killed by vampires and Tom is a bad-ass vampire hunter.
We see that George is keeping an eye on his baby with a whole bunch of crosses to ward against vampires. George has taken grieving to a whole new level, and Annie is trying to help him cope but he can’t deal.
Apparently the vampires are looking to recruit and take over the world and Cutler, who was turned by Wyndham, is part of the future wants to do it a different way, but the old ones want to do it old world style and take the world by brute force.
Tom learns of the old ones and tells George about them which makes Annie angry because she doesn’t want to lose anyone else, but it does get George out of the house.
We see a new vampire named Hal, and a werewolf named Leo, who also have a ghost friend and we learn from these two that if a ghost does not have her anchors it will fade away. This is probably why Annie feels so lost. This trio has been together a long time, and you can see that they all love each other.
Tom and George walk into a trap (who didn’t see that coming?)and his baby is taken by the vampires as they were waiting for her to werewolf out, but she doesn’t. The police, some of who are in the police force have taken George as a sacrifice instead of his daughter for the old ones, yet they find a prophecy that shows that she must die in order for the vampires to live.
George in a heroic feat tricks his body to into turning into half werewolf and he is able to save his daughter, but the cost is a high one.
In between the story is the story about the future where the resistance is hard at work trying to fight the vampires and young woman seems to be a leader. She too has the prophecy that the vampire had, but she found a 3rd piece. It apparently shows her something and she has her subordinate kill her. She turns into a ghost and her parting words are that she is about to save the world by going to kill a baby.
Now the girl from the future, who thinks she is the baby? Something tells me there is more to the prophecy, and it has to do with a very human baby. Why do the vampires want to now take over the world? In the 21st century it seems ludicrous what with there being way more people in the world.
This first episode establishes quite quickly that the vampires are looking for an end game, one that has them as the one in power. Again why now? After all the mess from the previous seasons, it seems like they are quite tired of being hidden and always having to hide their kills.
Poor George. He couldn’t deal with Nina being dead, and then having his daughter being kidnapped. Not even Annie could save him from himself. Now with Annie and Tom being the only ones to raise his daughter, named Eve, how will this work out? Well I can’t wait for this season to unfold,
This episode gets an A+.
