Beyonce and all things “Beyonce” is the subject of a new college course at the prestigious Rutgers University. This New Jersey college is offering this course to students under the school’s Women and Gender Studies curriculum.
Lecturer Kevin Allred has signed up to teach the Beyonce course which will include the students watching videos of the pop diva and exploring her impact on the world. The course overview outlines just what the study of Beyonce will entail, so the students will know what to expect.
The overview suggests that the discussion of Beyonce will often lead to discussions of other vocalists such as “Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Lady Gaga and contemporary musicians who embrace the soul singing tradition like Adele and Amy Winehouse.”
This is not the first person in the pop singer’s family to be the subject of a college course, Georgetown University offers the Sociology of Hip-Hip: Jay Z, who is Beyonce’s husband and the proud new father of Baby Blue Ivy Carter.
Rutgers is highly accredited and costly to attend, which may cause a few parents to be concerned when the college student in their family announces they’re taking a course in Beyonce.
The University is well thought of in the academic world because they’re open-minded and future oriented in their curriculum and studying Beyonce serves a much bigger purpose than listening to her music or exploring her biography.
This pop diva has helped change the world with her image and her openness to display her sexuality. The lyrics of her songs have demonstrated much influence on an entire generation. Her music also crosses the line of pop and appeals to a much broader audience, as it’s not unusual for Beyonce’s music to be a favorite of both a teen and their parents. She’s crossed generations with her talent, as she has many different age groups that find her music enticing.
Another aspect of Beyonce’s life that’s not often talked about is the hard work and determination to get where she is today. She’s the Donald Trump or the Bill Gates of the music set, which puts her up there with the many great American’s that have set out to conquer the American dream and found success through this journey of constant dedication.
As far as studying Beyonce as a modern woman today, her achievements are seemingly endless as she’s found success not only in business, but she’s also in a solid marriage. She’s just started a new family with the birth of Blue Ivy and many would say she’s one woman who has it all!
Beyonce also tried her hand out at act acting and she did got great reviews for her talent. Her movie “Obsessed” is currently available on Connecticut’s Comcast Xfinity “On-Demand.”
