As a man, I shouldn’t be there. What with the Giants in New England, I was supposed to be either at the game or in front of the TV. But the Second Annual BlackBride.com Bridal Show at the Marriott Marquis last Sunday afternoon was truly a treat worth attending.
The event balance was visually exciting while being entertaining and informative. Every conceivable vendor you need for that special day was there. Some of the highlights included a mock wedding, fashion show, custom candy bar and raffle drawing. There were a number of raffles and drawings, but one lucky young lady won a custom exclusive, custom made wedding gown worth $2500.00.
The CEO and Owner of BlackBride.com is the recent acquisition of Mary Chatman, the same force of nature behind LOVE LIFE DESIGNS, LLC, a romantic decorating and design firm. She has brought her “A” game to this event, along with the fashion show Producer Janice Lawrence-Clark, they managed to capture the essence of what brides need on their day. The evening’s MC was India Hines and the music was spun by DJ Blak Magic.
As mentioned, the vendors were also part of the show. These entrepreneurs – both small and large, beginners to novices – held their own. From event planners Judy Skinner, An Affair To Remember to beauty consultants Glenna McKenzie, there were also travel experts such as Lux Travel and Concierge Agency, caterers Masani Gourmet Southern Cuisine, Creolaise Ballroom and Bistro to cake bakers O’ How Sweet!, and D’s House of Sweets. There were the mandatory wedding gowns presented by Arete, Brides by Demetrios, and Sharon’s Alterations & Cleaners. In case the men felt left out, there were tuxes and accessories by Express Tuxedos. For a complete list of vendors and their contact information, click here.
How can you set yourself apart from other vendors? Give your client something no one can offer, such as style. So, there were a few vendors that made their mark featuring limos, draping, ice sculpting and especially photographers. Image makers such as Memories in Moments (the cross between an old-fashioned photo booth with the contemporary OMG! flair), Joi Pearson Photography, Weddings By Marie, IvannaFranz Photography, Diamond Photographic Productions, Kennard Photography, and Capture It Graphics & Video, Inc. Much respect to my fellow shooters for the love you showed me because all though this is a business, the respect to share their skills was evident that night.
So, with the showcase success this year, there’s much buzz about what will be next year. I hope to see you there because I know I will be. Stay tuned.
