– Kathy Bolkovac: The Real Whistleblower
Bolstering what many of us hate about the news – mainly that though it is reported, seldom is ever successfully done to change the atrocity of the day – The Whistleblower valiantly strives against the cynicism to promote a single point of light in the vast black sea of carnal corruption.
Kathy Bolkovac – played brilliantly by Weisz – is that point of light and under the capable hands of debut director Larysa Kondracki and her amazing eye for detail, Bolkovac shares a harrowing tale of betrayal, corruption and the overwhelming impact of reluctant bravery. And while one might dismiss certain aspects of the film as; ironically enough, being too damning or not damning enough, the strength of a stellar cast and a gripping cat and mouse cover-up are more than enough to keep you wide-eyed throughout.
Normally discs that only offer one special feature don’t warrant much attention, but the single supplement dedicated to meeting the real Kathy Bolkovac – though only five or so minutes long – is a great bit of reel-meets-reality coverage and one in which you’ll definitely not waste any time taking a chance on.
So with sopping thick suspense and a story so tainted you’ll wish it was pretense, The Whistleblower is cloak and dagger thrills with fear most foul.
