Because Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday this year, many people will be celebrating on the weekends before and after February 14. In the Brazos Valley, multiple diverse events provide opportunities to celebrate Valentine’s Day in 2012 in style – whenever you choose to observe it. Here are a few ideas for ways to take time out for romance.
February 2-4, 9-11, 16-18: Last of the Red Hot Lovers. Actors from StageCenter in Downtown Bryan, Texas, will present this Neil Simon play. Saturday, February 11, is a dinner theater, other performances are play only.
February 4: Brazos County Cattle Baron’s Ball. This event held at Brazos County Expo features live entertainment, dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions, midway games, and raffle. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
February 8, 9, and 11: Events at Messina Hof Winery in Bryan, Texas. Messina Hof offers several Valentine-inspired events. Chocolate Night at the Wine Bar takes place onWednesday, February 8; A Cooking Party with the Chefs takes place on Thursday, February 9; a Sweetheart Wine Tour and Valentine Murder Mystery Dinner are scheduled for Saturday, February 11.
February 10: Brazos Valley Heart Ball. This elegant outdoor event benefits the American Heart Association. Music by classic rock band The Buckinghams and regional favorite Karan Chavis and the Brew. The Brazos Valley Heart Ball will be held at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas.
February 10:Live music with Kinky Friedman. Yes, that Kinky Friedman. Friedman is a renowned troubadour, author, comedian, multi-talented performer, and even ex‑politician. The Kinkster’s Southern Discomfort Tour makes its way through Bryan, Texas, at the Village Café in Downtown Bryan. Tickets to an early meet-and-greet before the show benefit local community radio station KEOS-FM.
February 10:Valentine Dance Party. Sponsored by Susan’s Ballroom Dance, this dance party features a short lesson followed by ballroom dancing. Held at Unitarian Universalist Church of the Brazos Valley in College Station, Texas.
February 12: Valentine Ballroom Dance. The big band sound of the Greg Tivis Orchestra gives ballroom dancers another chance to strut their stuff, a rare opportunity in the Brazos Valley. Held at the Hilton Hotel in College Station, Texas.
Weekends February 11 through April 1: Sherwood Forest Faire 2012. Many a romantic tale has been told from the Renaissance period. Sherwood Forest Faire is located about 60 miles northwest of the Bryan-College Station area, an easy day’s drive from the Brazos Valley.
February 14 thru February 17: A Broadway Valentine, part of the OPAS Intimate Gatherings series. Take your pick of nights to see this presentation that stars four-time Tony Award nominee Gregg Edelman. The road show, called“Back in Town,” creates a cabaret atmosphere perfect for Valentine’s Day. The event will be held at Miramont Country Clubin Bryan, Texas, and ticket cost includes both the show and dinner.
February 17:Second Chance Valentine’s Dinner. The Lemon Wedge in Downtown Bryan, Texas, will be serving up live music and good food for those waiting until the weekend after February 14 to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Chef Denise always has something cooking and something up her sleeve.
February 18: Red, White, and Bluesy Hospice Happening. Brazos Valley Hospice will host its annual fundraising event at the Brazos County Expo. This event always has a few surprises in store.
February 18: Blacksmithing Demo Day.While not your typical Valentine’s Day event, Blacksmithing Demo Day at Steephollow Forgeworks offers entertainment, education, and art.
