The moon comes out rather early in Carlsbad, California . . . the Blue Moon, that is. “Happy Hour” is a much sought after time of day, and in this quaint town it starts promptly at 4:30 PM.
A certain scene “by the sea” is reappearing in this weekly nightlife column. However, it’s not the bar’s particular nightlife attributes that has thirsty patrons wanting more, but its packed patio-friendly, early evening rendezvous.
Picture this: A slight breeze refreshingly hitting you as you mix and mingle with a lively crowd that seems to have originated from all over—accents are common and beer is cold. Having a good time is mandatory, and a motto that is as crystal clear as the top shelved tequila used for powerhouse margaritas. But one (tiny) aspect of this popular beach-styled bar is definitely missing and in much needed demand.
Having it all isn’t necessarily possible at this hotspot. In order to hear the familiar tunes that one usually appreciates at this type of place, you must actually step inside the venue where the atmosphere automatically turns dim and a bit claustrophobic. Sure, the well-proportioned and cut-in-price appetizers are a lot easier to eat with the aid of a table and chair, but the sun-setting ambiance can obviously be better appreciated outside.
The solution to this dilemma can be simply solved: compromise and take full advantage of both worlds. Start early outside with a smooth cocktail, and end the night indoors with a spicy BBQ chicken pizza; you will be that much happier with your happy hour.
