Animal lovers everywhere, including right here in Huntsville, can appreciate this story. Although travelers affected by a cat’s escape into an AirCanada plane’s cockpit might not have been amused at the time.
A10-year-old tabby cat delayed the flight departing from Halifax to Toronto for approximately four hours Wednesday. The drama began when Ripples escaped from his owner’s carry-on crate, which had reportedly not been fastened securely following, ironically, a security check.
The feline, likely frightened, wound up in the airplane’s cockpit, lodged inside a panel. The cockpit door is often open during boarding
Passengers had to leave the plane while maintenance crews came in to retrieve Ripples, an effort that involved removing panels.
So what did Ripple’s antics cost him? He was sentenced to endure the flight in the cold confines of the luggage compartment. Some might say Ripples got off easy; after all, the delay cost the airport thousands of dollars in wage, not to mention re-booking fees.
If you plan on traveling with pets, you will want to make sure what your airline’s policy is regarding the practice. Here is a list of airlines that travel in and out of Huntsville, as well as access to their websites, which typically provide pet travel policies.
