On Thursday, February 2nd is the day of the pagan Sabbath Imbolc (also known as Candlemas to the Christian Churches). There are a number of different rituals and festivities that can be done for Imbolc, so here is a favorite one I’d like to share.
Imbolc stands for the time before spring and the embracing of Father Sun’s warm to all the plants. It is a time that shows hope and rebirth to our Earth Mother, or the Goddess Brighid.
For the ritual you will need a symbol of the season, like a snowflake, white flowers, and crystals to be placed on an altar. An orange candle anointed in musk, cinnamon, frankincense or rosemary oil.
Look at your altar, with all its wander and tranquility and say aloud, “Now is the time for the light to shine down from Father Sun unto our Mother Earth, beginning her awakening and getting prepared for the spring. Light your candle, stand and walk around the room counterclockwise.
Now say, “All the land is wrapped in winter. The air is chilled and frost envelopes the Earth. Father Sun shines down smiling at our Mother Earth as she begins to grow, showing her smiles back up to the sky. Welcome and give us rebirth.”
Now sit down and reflect or meditate on your new beginnings for the spring time. See your life blossoming with creativity, with renewed energy and strength.
