Lane was reportedly chased away from the school by a teacher – the school football coach, according to HLN – and was detained by police shortly thereafter.
Although Lane’s name has not been released by authorities because he is a juvenile, CNN reports witnesses identified Lane as the shooter.
Lane is a student at the Lake Academy alternative school and took the same bus as Danny and other students.
Danny has been described as smart and adventurous – enjoying computers and snowboarding. His parents released a statement through MetroHealth regarding their son.
“We are shocked by this senseless tragedy. Danny was a bright young boy who had a bright future ahead of him. The family is torn by this loss. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time,” said the statement.
Cleveland.com reports that on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m., a public prayer service will be held for the shooting victims at the Church of St. Mary, which is located across from Chardon High School.
