There are plenty of activities on tap this week to help the animals in your community – from adoption events and fundraising to caretaker events for those focusing on the feral cat community. And, don’t forget World Spay Day on Tuesday (especially if you’re still waiting to spay/neuter your pet).
Sunday, February 26 – The Orphans of the Storm’s most popular adoption event is back. Catmania will be held at the Animal Medical Center at 8343 Skokie Blvd in Skokie form 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be cats for adoption, tours of the hospital, refreshments and more. Every adopter receives a cat goodie bag.
World Spay Day events
Tuesday, February 28 – Stop by the Fox Valley Animal Welfare Leagues new Spay and Neuter Clinic for the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new facility at 10 a.m. There will be tours, meet the staff and more. The clinic is at 11 John Street in North Aurora.
Tuesday, February 28 – Celebrate Spay Day with a “Spay-ghetti with No Balls” dinner at Beggar’s Pizza at 15600 S. Cicero in Oak Forest from 5 to 9 p.m. The event features all you can eat pizza, salad and soda and will benefit Triple R Pets and LuLu’s Locker Rescue Group. Triple R Pets focuses on the TNR efforts in Oak Forest and LuLu’s Locker works on education and adoption of FIV cats, black cats and black dogs. Admission is $20 and tickets are available online.
Pet food pantry distribution
Wednesday, February 29 – The Lake County Pet Food Pantry will be distributing food between 9 a.m. until noon at the Central Bark Doggy Daycare at 256 Commerce in Grayslake. You must show proof of low income, pet ownership and have a valid I.D. Learn more online. Donations accepted between 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. daily.
Wednesday, February 29 – Patrick’s Pantry will be at Chicago Party Animals from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to distribute dog and cat food to low-income families. Must show proof of low income, pet ownership and have a valid ID. CPA is accepting food donations along with toys, blankets, bowls and leashes. Call 773-383-(dogs) 3647.
Saturday, March 3 – This is the second distribution of the week at the Lake County Pet Food Pantry between 9 a.m. and noon. Details above.
Fun and fundraisers
Thursday, March 1 – Realtors to the Rescue will hold a Membership Drive and Party at Chicago Party Animals between 5 and 9 p.m. at Chicago Party Animals at 1133 West Fulton Market. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the Door. If you join the organization at the event, the entrance fee will be credited toward your $30 yearly membership. Rescue dogs from the Dog Saving Network’s Life’s Ruff show will perform tricks at the event.
Friday, March 2 – There will be a Beer and Wine Tasting Fundraiser at WineStyles at 105 South Northwest Highway in Park Ridge from 5 to 7 p.m. to benefit Heartland Animal Shelter. There is a $10 donation to participate and 10 percent of beer and wine sales will benefit the animals at the shelter.
Friday, March 2 – Stop by Chicago Party Animals at 1133 West Fulton Market for Pup’s and Puptini’s between 6 and 9 p.m. This ladies-only (and pups too) event with Martini’s, manicures and shoulder massages.
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) workshops
Saturday, March 3 – Caretakers meeting for Spay and Stay at Mundelein High School from 10 a.m. until noon. Attendance is free and you may register in advance at 847-548-1980. Learn more online.
Sunday, March 4 – Tree House Humane Society will host a Helping Community Cats workshop to educate the community on the difference between stray and feral cats, trapping cats, caring for a colony and more. The workshop will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Skokie PetCo at 9645 Skokie Blvd. Learn more about TNR online.
