A small group of citizens who support our troops are planning to welcome home area troops now that the Iraq War has ended. The volunteers are gathering to help build this welcome home into an event our heroes won’t soon forget. There is a need for many volunteers, donations and helping hands to get this event to work.
Officially known as “Cincinnati Welcome Home Parade”, the committee is currently in planning stages; however, Mayor Mallory gave the go ahead to the committee to schedule the parade on Armed Forces Day, May 19, 2012; however, due to logistics the new date has been changed to September 15, 2012, to coincide with 9/11.
Announcements are posted on the CWHP Facebook page until the Cincinnati Heroes website is established online to accept donations. Currently Fifth Third Bank locations are accepting donations for the Welcome Home Parade. Any Fifth Third branch will accept checks payable to “Cincinnati Heroes Welcome Home”.
Supporting our troops is the best way to thank the brave men and women who serve our country.
“There service can’t be something that we as a country should forget about, or only think about at major holidays when we get to have a bonus day off, ” said Tammy Smith, event organizer.
