Cinnamon’s story is one that shows when people work together it is amazing what can be accomplished. Cinnamon was pulled from the Kansas City Pet Project during the first week of January. Cinnamon was an owner surrender and her pictures showed how sad she was. She had the saddest expression in her eyes and had mammary tumors that were visible on the photographs. Volunteers at the city shelter reported that Cinnamon was not doing very well. Autumn Acres Animal Rescue was unable to take Cinnamon but felt bad for her and wanted to help out. A volunteer with Autumn Acres asked if any rescue group would be willing to take Cinnamon if they helped to cover the vet costs. Unleashed Rescue stepped up and said they would take her once she was healthy.
Everyone expected that Cinnamon would have the typical upper respiratory infection common in shelter dogs. That was not the case. When an Autumn Acres volunteer went to the shelter to visit with Cinnamon she was shocked by how sick Cinnamon was. Cinnamon was barely able to breathe. She was breathing through her mouth and the shelter worker was very worried about her. The shelter worker said it was an emergency and Cinnamon was taken directly from the shelter to an emergency clinic.
Poor Cinnamon started off with what everyone thought was a very severe case of pneumonia; she was on oxygen and several antibiotics. Once she was able to breathe on her own she was taken to another vet for recovery care. Once she was getting over the pneumonia it became apparent there was something else going on. Cinnamon still refused to eat. She had broken teeth but the vet had a feeling there was something more. When they did the massive surgery to spay, fix her broken teeth, and remove her mammary tumors the vet decided to check her stomach and found a bunch of little chewed up plastic pieces. This poor girl has gone through so much and yet she’s a trooper. She came through the surgery just fine.
Once she recovered from the surgery she was doing great! Cinnamon is now a healthy happy pittie girl who LOVES everyone she meets. Cinnamon’s total bills were around $11,000!!! The 2 rescue groups have covered most of the bills but there is still a balance of $3700. Unleashed was the rescue group that stepped up to the plate for her and they could really use any help with her bills.
We need your help to give Cinnamon a good ending to her story. She is ready for adoption and is looking forward to meeting new people. Please contact Unleashed if you can help by donating, fostering, or adopting wonderful Cinnamon!
