In thinking about the upcoming spring season, I wanted to find a color palette that would inspire me to design. Color has this amazing power to not only grab our attention, but also evoke certain emotions. Calm, peace and excitement are just some of the emotions one feels in a room with color. On the search to find the next color duo, I happened upon Z Gallerie and their love for lemon and grey. Now most would pair grey with cools or rich warm colors (think persimmon), but lemon? Believe it or not, it actually works! Grey is a neutral base that embodies maturity and sophistication while lemon is known for its jovial nature. The partnership between the two is quite magnificent mixing subtlety with pops of color.
Let’s break down the color significance of lemon and grey to best understand the duo. As a bonus, we have paired our favorite Z Gallerie items for a cool visual. Decorating with Lemon & Grey

Decorating Tips & Tricks
- As a rule of thumb, it is always best to anchor a room with a neutral to establish order and balance. Choose grey furnishings like seating and other big ticket items to become your palette. From there, accent the interior with fun lemon accents like vases and lighting. The contrast between the two is so striking even the smallest lemon accent will make a difference.
- Be daring and mix (and match) lemon with grey in your art and textiles. Not only are the scales smaller (versus something big like furniture), but you can go wild with amazing print and pattern ideas.
- If you plan on using lemon as window treatments, try incorporating them in rooms that do not get direct sunlight (you can “cheat the heat”). Nothing is worse than sitting in a hot room during the summer with amplified rays beating down your neck.
