Following on the tails of a big Oscar Sunday for CO artists, we get news that one of our own, AnnaSophia Robb will be starring as the young Carrie Bradshaw in The Carrie Diaries, the Sex and the City prequel series set for a fall 2012 release on the CW network.
She took to twitter to announce the news, simultaneously joking that saw the news online first:
“So excited for #carriediaries! It was online before I even knew hahahaha oh technology.” No reaction from the camps of the original SATC ladies yet.
The Carrie Diaries is a best-selling book by Candace Bushnell, author of Sex and the City, and adapted for the screen by Amy Harris (Gossip Girl). Miguel Arteta (Cedar Rapids) is helmed to direct, with Warner Bros. Television set to produce.
The prequel series will take viewers into the life of Carrie Bradshaw in the 1980s, as a high school senior and through her original venture into the big city. The journey shows Carrie long before she was a respected writer and NYC aficionado. Carrie’s rebellious little sister, played by Stefania Owen, along with Katie Findlay and Ellen Wong are also attached.
Both Blake Lively and Miley Cyrus were previously rumored to star in the highly coveted role, but Robb was the big winner in the end. Robb is best known for her role in the bio-pic Soul Surfer as real life surfer and shark attack survivor Bethany Hamilton, which released last year. She has also starred in The Bridge to Terabithia, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Because of Winn-Dixie, Jumper, Race to Witch Mountain, Sleepwalking, andThe Reaping, among many others. She has starred with many of Hollywood’s leading ladies and men, and has other projects on the radar for 2012 as well.
Robb made a public Denver appearance last year at the Women + Film VOICES Film Festival to promote her flick Soul Surfer, with subject Bethany Hamilton and director Sean McNamara in attendance.
Congrats to the Colorado native actress AnnaSophia Robb!
