Friday, Colton Harris-Moore, also known as the Barefoot Bandit was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for theft and burglary; the Barefoot Bandit, 20, led police on a two-year manhunt around the country while he committed numerous burglaries and thefts that included airplanes, cars and boats.
The Barefoot Bandit was arrested in July of 2010 in the Bahamas after running from local authorities in a high speed water chase. He was brought back to Washington State to stand trial for his crimes. In the Bahamas, Colton pled guilty to a charge of an illegal landing for a plane he crash landed in the Bahamas. He paid a $300 fine and was deported to Miami.
The police named Harris-Moore the Barefoot Bandit after he left chalk outlines of large bare footprints at one his crime scenes.
Harris-Moore gained national fame during his crime spree and has over 45,000 likes on his Facebook page that hasn’t been updated since 2010. He also received a movie deal, according to CNN.
According to court documents, the Barefoot Bandit wrote this email last August: “The things I have done as far as flying and airplanes goes, is amazing. Nobody on this planet have done what I have, except for the Wright brothers.”
