This past weekend in Bowling Green, KY, ConCave Science Fiction Convention celebrated its 33rd year with gaming, movies, parties and more. It is described as a relaxacon, basically a place where science fiction and gaming fans can come and enjoy each other in a relaxing atmosphere.
There were toga parties, superhero/villian costume parties, alien parties galore. There were tattoo artists, cospalying, movie screenings, food, drinks, and oh did I mention food and drinks.
For the los cost of $30 prior registration and $40 at the door you caould eat and drink all you wanted all weekend. I dont mean at certain times I mean it was like a Hogwart’s holiday party where the houseelves would magically make the drinks and food appear out of nowhere. There was never a minute where there was an empty space at the tables or at the bar.
Here is how is was set up. The inner hotel rooms that faced the pool were used as party and game rooms. One room may have DND table top, the next would have the vampire LARPER’s, the next would be a movie screening, then a food room, a room with an open bar, a room with a tattoo artist, an artist toom, a costuming party room, oh and more food!
The event was open at noon on Friday and went for 48 hours straight until Sunday at noon. The people there were very nice and very helpful. If you didn’t understand something then they would explain it to you.
But, I have to say the best part of the entire weekend was the screening of the webisodes for the Breakfast Impossible show starring Claude Miles, Steve Guynn, and Billy T. Boyd. Here is a synopsis from their website:
Breakfast Impossible is a science fiction/action/comedy web series, set in a fictional universe in the year 2171. The show follows the adventures of Captain Casual and his compatriots Cee Law Dee, Mellow Fellow, The Yeti, and Papoosa. The series is notable for being one of the first Screen Actors Guild productions in the region.
You can find the first four episodes of Breakfast Impossible on their webiste at www.breakfastimpossible.com as well as on YouTube. I will have to say that this is the funniest and most unique show that I have seen in a long time.
Well Concave 34 is being planned for next year- will you be a part of it? Here is the website for more information at http://www.concaveky.org
