ACM Award Nominees: Yesterday the ACM Award Nominees were announced with some surprises. Kenny Chesney seems to be the top dog, along with Jason Aldean with a multitude of nominations including Entertainer of the Year. One of the bigger surprises was the fact that Toby Keith’s “Red Solo Cup” is up for Single of the Year and Video of the Year. Tune in April 1st on CBS at 8:00 PM to see who wins at the 47th Annual ACM Awards. Click here for the full recap of ACM Award Nominees.
Merle Haggard Hospitalized: Merle Haggard was initially released from a Macon, GA hospital before being taken back to the same hospital. Management said that he has pneumonia, polyps on his colon, and diverticulitis. He is expected to stay in the hospital for several days.
Miranda Lambert Faces Tragedy Again: Not too long ago, Miranda Lambert was dealing with the loss of her father-in-law, Dick Shelton. Miranda Lambert posted on Twitter yesterday, “I have lost a friend I’ve had since 3rd grade today in a tragic accident. When will this pain end. Please pray for peace.”
Along with many fans responding, several country music artists tweeted back. Dierks Bentley said “so sorry… praying for you all,” David Nail tweeted a simple “prayers!” and the Randy Rogers Band offered “we love you and are praying for you and the family.”
Hot Album Releases This Week: Curb Records have released their final record for Tim McGraw, “Emotional Traffic,” this week. The album itself includes “Die By My Own Hand” written by Kentucky natives Chad Warrix and David Tolliver. The overall album is still the popular sound that Tim McGraw created while at Curb Records.
On the other end of the spectrum, Kellie Pickler’s latest release “100 Proof” is a throwback to the traditional sound of country music. It is much different than previous releases, but a refreshing take on the country singer’s influences. Kellie Pickler proves herself in staying power beyond the American Idol recognition. Hot songs like “Where’s Tammy Wynette,” “Tough,” and “Long As I Never See You Again,” make this album a must have.
Download of the Week: American Idol alum Lauren Alaina has been rocking to her sassy number, “Georgia Peaches,” on the charts and on tv with the video release. Be sure to download it and sing along.
Awesome Possum Fact of the Week: On January 26th, 1947, Hank Williams, Sr. wrote “I Saw the Light.”
