If you are looking for a cozy place for dinner on Valentine’s Day, Twigs Restaurant in Tunkhannock is an excellent choice. Owners Lori and Jerry Bozedin have created a subtle environmental envelope with tall dark ceilings, deep eggplant colored walls and muted floral leaf rugs. This is also one restaurant where the quality of the food equals the quality of the decor. The paninis are superb, the crabcake sandwiches excellent, the coffee delicious.
Twigs looks deceptively small in size from across the street but once you enter the lead glass door there is a lot to see. In this standard architectural box of a building, the owners have created neighborhoods and corners conducive to relaxing over a sumptuous salad or one of the delectable entrees. The chi swirls through the room around the glass door screens and the tables.
You can sit on tall stools at smaller tables near the front windows and people watch together or sit further back at a quiet table tucked behind the glass screens that reflect the subtle lighting and mute personal conversations.
At the back of the main floor there is a friendly pub for sports lunches with friends. Note the original Victorian pressed metal wall covering behind the bar.
The second floor party room is surprisingly large and bright. The showpiece of the room is the enormous bar and mirrored background salvaged from a building in Scranton. The bar was dismantled, meticulously pieced together and polished into place. A large fireplace creates a nice focal balance on the opposite wall.
As a further note, the upstairs room can also be reserved for wedding receptions, parties, and showers. If you have a larger group on Saturdays or Sundays, call ahead to reserve space in the party room. Your circle of friends will enjoy gathering around one of the extra large round tables.
Every corner of Twigs has been artistically sculpted with a careful attention to detail, whether in the metal flower lights handcrafted by local artisan Ed Dorrance, tastefully framed art or prints. Even the Art Deco bathroom on the second floor rates a closer look.
All of this attention and careful planning has paid off in a beautiful balance of atmosphere, good food, and excellent service. Twigs celebrated its 12th anniversary in November. Listings for their daily specials, wine and beer tasting, Valentine’s Day specials and other themed events throughout the year can be found on their Facebok page.
