The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center is thrilled to welcome home Zack Dobbins for a one night performance and art installation, “I ♥ NY : There’s no place like home,” on Saturday, March 17.
Combining his performing career and success as a sculptor, window designer, and conceptual artist in Manhattan, Dobbins will not only give guests a performance of music from Broadway and a never-before-heard original single from his upcoming album, he will also transform the Art Center’s Grand Atrium into his vision of a modern day Oz through the lens of his Manhattan home.
This will be Zack Dobbins’ first local performance in more than 15 years. Dobbins attended high school at Cypress Lake Center for the Arts and was awarded the Van Sickle Scholarship by the Southwest Symphony Orchestra. He was given a full scholarship to New York University, where he studied acting, singing and liberal arts.
Dobbins was cast as the youngest member of the world premiere of Elton John’s and Tim Rice’s Elaborate Lives (later renamed AIDA) and understudied and performed the leading role of Radames. He left the theater and went into the recording studio, and has performed to sold out audiences in music venues around Manhattan such as the legendary Joe’s Pub and the beloved Metropolitan Room.
By a twist of fate, Dobbins was hired to design windows and interiors for fashion’s tour de force, Barney’s New York on Madison Avenue. Following his passion for fashion design has led him to engagements with the icons of modern fashion including Ralph Lauren, Valentino and Tory Burch. Recently, Zack partnered with longtime friend and designer David Wright to establish Dobbins and Wright Creative. Together, they have created windows and sculpture for brands including Debeers Diamonds, Christian Louboutin, The Soho Grand Hotel and The Tribeca Grand Hotel.
Dobbins continues to write and record music as well as act and sing. He and his work have been published in the New York Times, the LA Times, ELLE UK, WWD, as well as other publications. Any creative outlet that gives Zack an opportunity for his favorite combination of ICONIC, IRONIC and IRREVERENT… he imbibes with full force!
He is thrilled to be home designing and performing. and is honored to be working for the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center’s “I ♥ NewYork.”
