Although last night’s Oscar show was a bit of a snooze fest (sorry Billy Crystal), the fashions were anything but. Here is a rundown on the best dressed divas of the night.
-Gwyneth Paltrow looked stunningly svelte, sophisticated and statuesque in her elegant white Tom Ford gown with asymmetrical neckline and matching cape. Gwynnie also kept her hair, makeup and jewelry very minimal which allowed the viewers to appreciate the gorgeousness of her ensemble.
-Rooney Mara in Givenchy Haute Couture looked ethereal and elegant in her architectural white lace gown which looked great with her porcelain complexion and blood red lips. Her dark eyebrows and bangs reminded me of a young Audrey Hepburn, a big departure from her character Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”
-Rose Byrne looked très chic with her sleek bob and shimmering one shoulder Vivienne Westwood gown. The Chanel ‘Luere d’un Soir’ earrings added just the right touch of glamour to her ensemble.
-Michelle Williams didn’t win an Oscar for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe, but she did score major fashion points with her vermillion colored Louis Vuitton tiered chiffon dress with a flirty peplum and diamond brooch at her waist. Her makeup also looked dewy and fresh but she should have gone with a different lip color as the fuchsia clashed with her orangey-red dress.
-Jennifer Lopez looked dazzling in her glittery and sheer Zuhair Murad gown. Although I personally think the dress would have looked better sleeveless, she looked gorgeous nonetheless and her pale peach lips, dramatic cat eyeliner and voluminous hair finished off the look nicely.
-Glenn Close chose a forest green strapless gown by Zac Posen topped with a sleek tuxedo jacket which added some flair and interest to the look. Glenn who is now 64 looked hip and modern with her look.
-Milla Jovovich was a vision of beauty and elegance in her sparkly white one shouldered Elie Saab Couture gown. Her red lips and simple jewels balanced out the look nicely.
-Octavia Spencer wore a beautifully flattering beaded white gown by her favorite designer Tadashi Shoji. This gown was perfect for the first time Oscar winner as it gave her a sexy yet svelte hourglass shape.
-Cameron Diaz showed off her fabulously fit figure with a form fitting cream colored Gucci gown with a dramatic embellished train. The strapless dress and her simple jewelry displayed her perfectly toned arms nicely.
-Viola Davis looked stunning in a bright green Vera Wang gown with beaded bodice and ruffled hem. Her reddish hair worn au natural also complimented the look nicely. The only thing I would have liked to have seen is a little more color on the lip and a simple necklace instead of the chunky cuff she wore.
-Although some people didn’t like Kirsten Wiig’s nude colored J. Mendel dress, I thought is was lovely but it could have used a pop of color. I would have suggested a crimson lip and some beautifully colored jewels such as emeralds or rubies to add that bit of color that this look lacked.
Overall, there were many beautiful looks seen at this years Oscars so enjoy my slideshow and feel free to add your own fashion commentary!
