A man was found guilty by a jury Friday for causing a deadly collision while driving a stolen vehicle. Robert Denham, 38, was convicted on all four counts- felony murder, carjacking, driving on a suspended license, and fleeing and eluding.
The criminal episode occurred during the night of June 6, 2011.
Denham stole a 1994 Buick LeSabre from the Providence Green Apts in Oak Park. Soon, police were alerted to the theft.
At about 8:30 PM a Berkely officer spotted the vehicle on Coolidge near 11 Mile and gave chase.
Speeds soon made the pursuit too hazardous and the officer broke it off. However, Denham proceeded to speed south on Coolidge.
Eventually Denham blew a red light and struck a Saab broadside; one of the Saab’s occupants, Bernardine Lytle, 48, died at the scene.
Denham will be sentenced February 21. He faces up to life in prison on the murder count.
