When the marriage of form and function come together to create a work of art, the end result can be truly something to behold. Such is the case when master woodcrafter Ray Hill join forces with friend and business partner Eric Nord to open the book on their latest venture; F³ Designs. Together, this innovative duo is poised to set the consumer electronics accessory business on its ear with their new creation; the F³ Folio.
Initially developed as a prototype for Hill’s own personal use, the original design evolved into the folio case offered by the company today. This functional and aesthetically appealing case is considered by many to be a piece of functional art. The mid-century modern inspired design, coupled with Hills creative use of wood veneers, such as Ash, Cherry, Mahogany, Zebrawood and Makassar Ebony, makes the case incredibly attractive to look at. Add to that a protective polyethylene interior in a choice of vibrant complimentary colors, and you have an exceptionally safe place to store your iPad tablet.
When Hill and Nord decided to combine their considerable skills to brand F³ Designs, each brought a wealth of skill and experience to the table.
Ray Hill is a true master of his craft. With his degree in Industrial Design, he has become well-know in the Denver area for his amazing cabinetry and custom furniture construction through his own company, ray Hill Studios. His designs grace the interior of some of the finest homes in the metropolitan area. The sleek, sophisticated design of the F³ Folio is no mistake; it is perfectly in line with Hills belief in creating custom items that are multi-functional and modern in design.
Eric Nord brings his acute business acumen to F³ Designs, as well as a great understanding of the artistic mantra of form and function. A transplant from New York City, Nord previously help positions with Architectural and Design Firm, M (Group); Fine Art Gallery, Sperone Westwater; and one of America’s oldest, and most vibrant performing arts organizations, The Brooklyn Academy of Music.
With the F³ Folio, F³ Designs has offered a way for consumers to not only protect the investment that is their iPad, but to increase its functionality as well. The case has an “arm” that closes the iPad device inside it. But remove the arm from the case, and it becomes a kickstand for the case; allowing the user to view the screen in either a landscape or portrait format.
If the iPad is used in a business capacity, there is an optional grooved cut out that can be added to the case. By attaching the credit card reader device available from Apple, users can run credit card transactions directly through their iPad device without removing it from the F³ Folio. The unit can also be engraved with a company logo, or just the users’ initials, making it even more personal.
The cost per unit varies by the type of wood selected; from $79.99 to $179.99. Orders can be placed directly from F³ Designs directly for the folio. To learn more about F³ Designs, or to order your own F³ Folio, visit their website.
