If you are a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber and The Phantom of the Opera, then the latest NCM Fathom event is right up your alley.
Fathom has teamed up with Omniverse Vision to bring Love Never Dies to America for the first time in theaters around the country. Love Never Dies is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sequel to Phantom, and it has never been performed theatrically her in the United States.
The event will present a pre-recorded fully staged performance filmed at The Regent Theatre in Melbourne, Australia. Ben Lewis will play the Phantom and Anna O’Byrne will play Christine Daae. The sequel finds the Phantom after he has escaped Paris Opera house and made his way to New York City and Coney Island where he is at home among the freaks and sideshow. The Phantom is not over Christine yet though, and he lures her and her family to Coney Island to perform.
In addition to the show, audiences will be treated to an introduction by Andrew Lloyd Webber. He will discuss his creative process and also talk about some of the pitfall of bringing a sequel to the beloved musical to the screen. The event will also feature behind-the-scenes content.
Ames residents can enjoy this rare opportunity tonight (February 28, 2012) at the Cinemark Movies 12 here in town. The show will start at 7:30 pm. I recommend arriving a little early though as there is usually some great content before the show begins. The show is also being aired in Des Moines at the Century 20 Jordan Creek at the same time.
If you live outside the central Iowa area, a complete list of theaters broadcasting Love Never Dies is located here. Select theaters will also air the feature again on March 7, 2012. None of the Iowa theaters are scheduled to broadcast the show on March 7th, so tonight is your only opportunity.
