Avalon’s renowned Friday night party – CONTROL – is celebrating its third year anniversary this Friday – March 2nd, 2012. Featuring sets from Felguk, Tommy Trash, TJR, Bones, and Deth Hertz – CONTROL is throwing a massive party in conjunction with the iconic clubbing magazine, Mixmag. Over three incredible years blending Electro, Nu-Disco, Dubstep, and House music; Friday’s at Avalon have become LA’s most coveted dance party and introduced an entirely new generation of fans to dance music.
Attracting some of the biggest names in electronic genres, CONTROL has hosted everyone from Armand van Helden, James Murphy and Tiga, to Wolfgang Gartner and Simian Mobile Disco. Whether it’s been turn-table magicians like Klever and Craze or Dubstep pioneers Skrillex, Rusko and 12th Planet, CONTROL has built a reputation on a fearless commitment to those who are innovating and trendsetting across the electronic music spectrum. It is little wonder that CONTROL handed West Coast big room debuts to Skrillex, Rusko, Wolfgang Gartner, Felguk, Felix Cartal, Porter Robinson, Dada Life and many more.
Support has been coming from the likes of Rolling Stone, LA Times, LA Weekly, Mixmag, DJ Mag and other noteworthy publications. On the occasion of its third birthday some of dance music’s most influential artists took the chance to comment on what makes CONTROL so special:
“Control is special. For how big it is, they are still on the cutting edge of EDM.”– Skrillex
“CONTROL is my favorite place to play in LA…”– 12th Planet
“My fondest memories of my early Los Angeles shows were the parties at Avalon by Control… One particular show ended up being my favorite club show of 2010, out of at least a hundred to choose from. I think that says a lot.”– Wolfgang Gartner
“Best Friday night party for dance music in LA…”– Steve Aoki
“CONTROL is my favorite party in Los Angeles.”– Congorock
“My favorite place to play in all of Southern California! I love the sound, the vibe, the craziness onstage, all of it. Can’t wait to get back!”– Ken Jordan, Crystal Method
“I got ONE word for one of my favorite places to play Control! “OUTTA”– Tommy Lee
“Control is one of the best clubs in the world… The crowd are the craziest and best in the world.”– Dada Life
“My first time at control was with Rusko and he blew the place to pieces. I was like…wtf dubstep arrived! CONTROL put it down for LA with the freshest artists since! Major lazer included!”– Diplo / Major Lazer
It’s only fitting that Friday’s 3rd anniversary will feature a double headliner set from Brazil’s Electro duo, Felguk, and the meteorically rising producer/remixer, Tommy Trash. Consistent with CONTROL’s reputation of bringing top-notch talent, Felguk and Tommy Trash embody the fresh upwardly rising movement that is at the heart of CONTROL. After performing at CONTROL for the first time last year, Felguk went on to play EDC Las Vegas, release multiple singles on their own label, and now they’re gearing up for a multi-continental tour including a 3-gig stint supporting the legendary Benny Benassi in the UK.
Tommy Trash has seen one of the most rapid rises in dance music in the last twelve months. Since Tiesto, Guetta, and Swedish House Mafia championed his single, ‘The End,’ last summer, the sky has been the limit. Playing clubs and festivals from Sankey’s in Manchester to Stereosonic in Australia, Tommy Trash is one of the hottest artists available. Amidst a massive North American tour, Tommy’s stop at Avalon will undoubtedly be one for the record books.
In eight years, well over two million clubbers and concertgoers have passed through Avalon’s doors, enjoying one of the best nightclub experiences in the world. Avalon was first opened in Boston in 1998 by founder John Lyons, who then took Avalon to New York, before launching in Los Angeles, in 2004 – making Avalon one of the longest running club brands in America.
Presale tickets for Friday have already sold-out, but there will be GA at the door – be sure to arrive early.
