Former Austin Toros power forward Lance Thomas has been signed by the NBA’s New Orleans Hornets for the remainder of the 2011-12 season.
The news was announced early Tuesday and per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.
The 6-8, 225 athletic forward was most recently playing out the end of two consecutive 10-day contracts with the club.
However, with starting center Emeka Okafor, backup power forward Carl Landry and center Chris Kaman all used sparingly of late for various injuries and, subsequent, trade uncertainty; Thomas’ addition to the roster immediately fills a few gaping holes for the club upfront.
Thomas has suited up in 11 games with the Hornets this season putting in just 2.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in 9.1 minutes of action per night.
Before signing with the Hornets, the former Duke Blue Devil posted D-League All-Star worthy numbers of 15.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 54.6% from the field in 19 contests for the Toros early this season.
