A fun easy way to spend a day (and possibly some small change) in south Florida is by making a trip to the Florida Swap Shop on West Sunrise Boulevard. Visitors are greeted with a colorful, carnival-like atmosphere—there is small amusement park area, an indoor luxury car collection to view, and countless quick food options.
If you’re in the market for really, really cheap shoes, low-key vacation clothes (read: Hawaiian shirts and linen dresses), and affordable housewares galore, this is your one-stop shop. Aisles and aisles of wares, both indoors and outdoors, await exploration. Vintage and antique items are harder to find, but there are bargains to be enjoyed by nearly every shopper. If Fido is joining your party, the market is pet friendly (just be sure to clean up after your friend)!
After a day of flea marketing, head over to Las Olas Boulevard, where you can enjoy a Turkey Reuben at Mangos Restaurant and Lounge. It’s a little heavy on the caraway seeds, but a good ol’ southern sweet tea does the trick to balance it out. End your evening browsing the quaint décor shops, boutiques, and galleries on Las Olas before heading back home. Fido will still be able to enjoy the trip, as many boutiques have pet watering stations outside their doors.
A trip to Fort Lauderdale makes for a budget-conscious way to spend a day enjoying the sights and tastes of southern Florida.
