After a recall by Pfizer of Lo/Ovral 28 on February 1st, another batch of birth control pills has been recalled, this time by Glenmark Generics, Inc. Glenmark Generics, Inc. announced on February 24, 2012 that it is voluntarily recalling 7 lots of Norgestimate and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets USP. Just as in the Pfizer recall, the Glenmark Generics, Inc. recall involves birth control pills packets that were packaged incorrectly and have pills out of sequence.
Glenmark Generics, Inc. reports that the affected lots were manufactured in India, but only distributed in the U.S. The recalled packages were distributed to wholesalers and pharmaceutical outlets between September 21, 2011 and December 30, 2011. The recall may affect women in the St. Louis area. St. Louis residents are advised to check the lot numbers below against the packages obtained when they picked up their last prescriptions.
Only the following lot numbers are subject to this recall:
04110101 expiring 07/31/2013
04110106 expiring 07/31/2013
04110107 expiring 07/31/2013
04110114 expiring 08/31/2013

Women who solely rely on these contraceptives for birth control should discontinue use immediately and consult with their doctors about which alternate form of birth control would be best for them.
Women in St. Louis who may be experiencing the initial signs of pregnancy, such as missed menstruation, nausea, fatigue, frequent urination, headaches, backaches or abnormal bleeding should speak with their physician right away. A home pregnancy kit, available at Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy or Target can often confirm a pregnancy before a doctor’s examination.
Furthermore, in the event of an unplanned pregnancy, St. Louis residents may find support through local services such as Thrive Pregnancy Resource Center or Birthright Counseling.
For more information about this recall or to ask questions, consumers may contact Glenmark Generics, Inc. at 1-888-721-7115 Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Central Time.
