On Homecoming Weekend at Drexel University, the Dragons men’s basketball squad disposed of their bitter rivals, the Delaware Blue Hens, by a score of 71-55 on Saturday afternoon. Drexel (17-5, 9-2 CAA) was led by senior forward Samme Givens who registered 23 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore point guard dropped in 19 points and dished out five assists.
Junior guard Chris Fouch came off the bench to score 10 points and junior power forward Daryl McCoy pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.
Delaware started off the game with a quick 4-0 lead and controlled the first 10 minutes of the operning half. But Drexel eventually took their first lead of the game at the 9:47 mark in the first half with a layup by sophomore forward Dartaye Ruffin, making it 15-13. The Dragons never trailed from that point on and they coasted to their ninth straight victory.
Drexel now hits the road for three straight games starting with a Wednesday night matchup in Boston against Northeastern. On another note, the ESPN Bracketbuster matchups will be announced on Monday January 30th and the Dragons will be hoping to get one of the 13 television games to show the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee that they’ve got what it takes to make some noise in the “Big Dance.”
