Sundays are made to be lazy. Lounging on the couch, catching up on your sleep from a long week, this is what Sundays are all about. And when you’re ready to leave the comfort of your home there’s nothing more satisfying than a hot breakfast or brunch to catch up with friends. Here are some of my favorite breakfast spots.
21050 N Tatum Blvd, Phoenix (480) 585-7978
A coffee shop vibe specializing in locally grown and organic foods, Tryst Café offers everything from Steak and Eggs to Huevos Rancheros and everything in between. Tucked away in the Shade Plaza across the street from Desert Ridge Mall, Tryst Café offers the option to dine al fresco on a covered patio or enjoy the indoor/outdoor ambiance. Top off your brunch with a fruit smoothie, Bloody Mary or Mimosa. Breakfast is served till 2:30 p.m. seven days a week.
4020 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale 480-944-3673
It’s hard to miss the Daily Dose located in Old Town Scottsdale just south of Indian School Road. If the crowds of happy patrons sitting on their outdoor patio are some indication, this neighborhood favorite is well regarded for their wide selection of omelets, pancakes and waffles. Even the health nut can choose from granola, steel cut oatmeal or an egg white wrap. Winner of the “Best Hangover Breakfast” from the Phoenix New Times, you’ve got to try the Daily Dose at least once to experience what seems to be a regular hangout for many.
7620 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale 480-947-0057
For the best, homemade pastries in Phoenix, visit Scratch Pastries. You’ll find yourself drooling over their scrumptious chocolate croissants, tartes, éclairs and more. With a Parisian flair, the husband and wife co-owners Duc and Noelle Liao, former fashion photographer and model, have brought charming French touches to their café in South Scottsdale. Eggs benedict, Belgian waffles and mimosas round out the savory items on the menu and make you want to stay for lunch and dinner.
9832 N. 7th St #1, Phoenix (NW corner of 7th St & Mountain View) 602-374-2294
Using fresh ingredients from local farmers, Scramble has a casual atmosphere with an expansive menu. Sample a brizza, their version of a breakfast pizza, buttermilk biscuits and gravy for a taste of the South, or a vegan breakfast option with tofu, soyrizo and sweet potato hash. Relax and watch the hi definition plasma tv’s or fire up your computer accessing their free wifi.
