There isn’t one area of your life that’s safe from having a bad day. Everyone’s had a bad day at some time in their life or one day they will.
It can be difficult to stay positive when you’re having a bad day. When things go wrong it can quickly change your attitude from positive to negative. However there are some things you can do to improve your mood and feel happier.
Here are five ways to stay positive and feel happier when your having a bad day:
1. Go for a long, quite walk… alone.
Walking is not just a great exercise, it’s a wonderful way to relax and de-stress when you’re having a bad day. If you want to improve your mood quickly, choose a walking path in a natural environment. Spending time in beautiful surroundings, looking at the birds and flowers, with your cell phone and other distractions turned off, will help you feel happier.
2. Turn on your favorite tunes.
Music not only soothes the savage beast, it can do wonders for improving your mood when you’re having a bad day. So when you sense a bad day is beginning, turn on some music. Find your favorite old song or find something new, and lose yourself in the music.
3. Find something to laugh at.
Laughter can be the best medicine for the bad day blues. It can make it easier to stay positive when things aren’t working out the way you want. Knock back your bad mood with a funny movie or book. Try out some new jokes, post something silly on Facebook or Twitter or just talk to your funniest friend. This will make you feel happier and improve your mood.
4. Take a deep breath… breathing meditation.
We all know how to breathe… but deep breathing is different. It’s a wonderful relaxation technique that you can do anywhere. Sit comfortably with your eyes closed and breathe in and out of your nostrils. Do this for ten minutes, staying aware of each breath. You’ll be surprised at how relaxed you feel afterwards, and how much you can improve your mood.
5. Grab a pen and a piece of paper.
Sometimes there are things you need to get out of your mind. Writing or journaling your thoughts can help get you though the negativity of having a bad day. Don’t have anything to write, why not start doodling. Sometime your little scribbles can actually help get you started or can help express yourself through your drawings. Keeping a journal is a good way to help deal with everyday stress.
Things five steps may seem pretty simple, and they are, but they work. You don’t need to change your whole life around to feel happier when you’re having a bad day. The trick is to do things that help you stay positive or improve your mood. If you’ve ever had a bad day, then you know that’s not easy. But you have to remember it is possible.
