Homeschool students are being sought to attend the Arizona Service Academies Conference in Phoenix in April. This annual free event is designed to demystify the application process for the military schools, and give families the information needed for meeting the rigorous physical and academic standards for admission.
The five academies, Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine, have been recruiting homeschoolers for several years, and generally have done away with separate rules for these students. Representatives from each sector will be on hand to answer questions and explain the Congressional application and nomination process.
Senator Jon Kyl and Congressman Ben Quayle are hosting the event to bring awareness of the free education available to those who are selected for the service academies. Students and parents should attend together and come prepared with questions that you want to ask. It is recommended that students younger than high school age participate so they can see what will be required of them during the high school years. Educators are encouraged to attend as well to be able to share with their students.
