Last night we were treated to a double whammy of “30 Rock,” with two whole new episodes, beginning with the conclusion of last week’s “Idiots Are People Two!” Last week we were left with a cliffhanger, as Liz (Tina Fey) discovered Jack’s (Alec Baldwin’s) financial involvement in her and her new boyfriend Criss’ (guest star James Marsden’s) relationship. We also were left wondering what Kelsey Grammer (guest starring as himself) did to poor Pete (Scott Adsit).
In last night’s conclusion (spoiler alerts ahead), Devin Banks (Will Arnet) returned to “30 Rock” as an advocate for an apology from Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) for his anti-gay remarks. Liz confronts Criss and reveals that the donor for his new street corner hot dog van is in fact, her boss Jack. Criss realizes Liz is embarrassed by him when she says she doesn’t want Jack to meet him. Devin, meanwhile, reveals to Jack that he was the one who leaked the Tracy stand-up video and that there’s more where that came from unless Jack does him a favor and gets his triplets into one of Manhattan’s toughest preschools.
Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) and Jenna (Jane Krakowski) work with Kelsey to clean up Pete’s body. They need a distraction, so Kelsey puts on a performance as Abraham Lincoln for the “TGS” staff. Criss goes to Jack’s office to give back the money and Jack gives him the formal disapproval. Liz tries to stop Jack, but finds herself listening to all of Jack’s criticisms of Criss. Later, Jack introduces Devin’s to the president of the board at St. Michael’s preschool. The president drops a hint that Devin’s former father-in-law promised to donate money to a hospital he’s on the board at. As result of his death however, it was never received. Jack and Devin approach Devin’s child-woman wife Kathy and ask her for the money, which she gives to them when they change NBC’s mascot to a magical unicorn.
During Kelsey’s performance, Kenneth and Jenna move Pete, who Kelsey later sets up on the floor with a bag over his head, his pants down and a girly magazine. In the lobby of 30 Rock, Devin tells Jack that Jack lost this round, because by securing his triplets a spot in preschool with favors, Jack has forfeited school for his own daughter Liddy. Outside, Liz is forced to publically apologize to Tracy, Denise Richards and the idiots, realizing she was an idiot herself for giving up on Criss. Liz and Criss reunite. Jack sees and gives Criss probationary approval. Jack also wins with Devin, telling Devin that if he caught up to him without a good education, Liddy will catch up to Devin’s kids even when she attends public school. Meanwhile, Jenna, Kenneth and Kelsey celebrate their triumph, realizing Jenna’s lights were fixed the entire time. She just needed to turn them on.
Stay tuned for an episode recap of last night’s other “30 Rock” episode, “The Ballad of Kenneth Parcell.”
