The trade rumors continue to flood the headlines in Los Angeles with the Lakers being at the center of it all. The newest Lakers trade rumor in the City of Angels involves the up-and-coming Minnesota Timberwolves. During the 2011 NBA draft, the Timberwolves were reportedly in talks with the Lakers about a deal to send the second overall pick (Derrick Williams) to Los Angeles Lakers with All-Star Kevin Love.
Obviously, the T’Wolves were wise not to make this move because they would’ve given up arguably the best power forward in the game along with a promising young forward in Arizona’s Derrick Williams. Even though that trade never happened, the two sides could be talking once again with Williams and Gasol being the center pieces.
According to Chris Tomasson of Fox Sports, the Minnesota Timberwolves are interested in acquiring Pau Gasol and are willing to give up rookie Derrick Williams, draft picks and possibly some other players to make it work. Forward Michael Beasley could also end up being a possibility for the Lakers.
Rookie point guard Ricky Rubio and All-Star forward Kevin Love are untouchable at this point for the Minnesota Timberwolves. There is no chance either of them will be involved if a trade is proposed by the T’Wolves to the Lakers.

All season long, Pau Gasol has been mentioned in numerous NBA trade rumors involving teams like the Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic and the Boston Celtics. Despite no deal getting done to acquire players like Kyle Lowry, Dwight Howard or Rajon Rondo in return, the writing seems to be written on the wall in Los Angeles with the Lakers determined to trade away their international superstar forward in exchange for some younger talent.
The NBA trade deadline is less than a month away now (March 15) and there is a good chance that the Los Angeles Lakers pull the trigger on a blockbuster deal. With the future of Dwight Howard in Orlando uncertain and other big-name players like Rajon Rondo and Deron Williams reportedly being on the trade block or mentioned in trade rumors, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak could start to get very aggressive in trade talks with teams interested in Pau Gasol and or All-Star center Andrew Bynum.
Along with potential trades, the Lakers have been linked to free agents Gilbert Arenas and J.R. Smith. No signing of either player is imminent, but that could change in the coming weeks.
