If you have been craving for some fishing, the news has been a little bleak here on South Carolina lakes. Most of the fishing reports have showed that the catches have been slow. People have reported that some large bass have been caught, but you have to fish very deep water and fish slowly. If you’re in a hurry, then you might miss a huge fish. Not many reports of many small to mid-sized bass being caught.
Crappie fishing has been reported to be okay, but you have to fish the deeper areas of the lakes and/or ponds. Using minnows near brush piles and rocky bottoms are the best for crappie. Bream fishing has been okay as well off of bridges, like the bride going over Lake Marion in Santee, SC. Using small minnows and crickets are the baits of choice. The weather has really put a hold on a lot of good fishing.
About the only good reports from fishing have come from anglers catching channel catfish. The baits of choice have been small panfish, cutbait and shad. Good amounts of catfish have been caught near the dam in Santee, South Carolina. The entire southeast has gone through many odd weather patterns of late and has made fishing a real guessing game. You have to be patient until a continuous pattern in the weather comes. That way you’ll be able to figure out what all the fish are doing.
