What if you had an extra day to do whatever you wanted? We have been taught there are 365 days in a year when actually, there are 365 and a quarter days in each year so every four years we get an extra day to “catch up”. Wednesday, is that extra day. Leap Day has long held a mystical significance. It’s an extra, or intercalary, day added every four years in our modern Gregorian calendar.
Said to be introduced over 2,000 years ago with the transition from the Roman calendar to the Julian version in 45BCE (before common-era), Leap Day has become associated with age-old traditions and customs.
Folklore says it is the one day where it is permissible for a woman to ask a man for his hand in marriage (she should be wearing a red petticoat) in Miami perhaps a red sundress would be order. If the man refuses the proposal, he should be prepared to buy a silk gown or something nice and of value. If you have been waiting for that ring ladies, Wednesday may be the perfect day to summon the courage, to ask for your significant others hand in marriage. Forget that! This isn’t ancient times and the only people who really care who popped the question may be you. However, it would make a great story for the kids.
Leap day is a very special day for those born in a leap year, as their official birthday only comes around every four years. This should be the most imaginative party you can think of, party like its 1999! Folklore also suggests that leap day is not a good day to plant, oh well, throw a party instead!
To help with that party Disney is staying open for 24 hours from February 29 at 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. March 1, calling it “One More Disney Day”. Hang with Mickey and the Gang for 24 hours in both theme parks, either Florida or California. What a way to celebrate!
Let your metaphysical imagination run wild just like Walt did…There is also a 5 day vacation giveaway @ http://disney.go.com/memories/ you can enter till Wednesday.
Imagination is a faculty that should be exercised more often and Walt Disney was a master at it. What new ideas have you developed lately? Leap day is an extra day, take some time and daydream a little. Be Inspired!
A bit of leap year trivia, on Feb 29, 1504, there was a lunar eclipse, it is reported that Christopher Columbus knew what was happening, and used his knowledge to trick Native Americans into providing him with supplies. Sneaky sailor…he got what he wanted.
You can always watch the movie Leap Year for inspiration…
What a great day to do something out of the ordinary. Don’t waste the extra day! Enjoy! Stretch your imagination! LEAP!!!
