Liverpool continue their quest to add additional talent as they look to have completed one of the first signings of January with the arrival of 19-year-old Joao Carlos Teixeira from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of £850,000 according to both the Daily Mail and the Guardian.
The young playmaker, has come through the same academy as Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Figo and Paulo Futre, was reportedly targeted at the insistence of Liverpool’s academy technical manager Jose Segura.
Despite having trained with Sporting’s first team all season he was still yet to make his debut in the Portuguese Liga.
Only days after Liverpool were thinking they could wrap up a £10 million signing of Lille striker Moussa Sow, Metro reports that the forward is looking to seal a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce.
Sow said yesterday: “I want to play in England. Liverpool, well, that is a dream club. Anyone would be happy, scoring goals in front of the Kop can be the highlight of a career.”
Apparently it will be a dream come true only in an alternate reality as the Reds now look towards other avenues to bring in a new striker.
The Reds still have life left in their possible deal to bring striker Jermaine Defoe to Merseyside from Tottenham Hotspur according to Clubcall.
Defoe made these comments yesterday on Sky Sports News:
“At the end of the day it’s not a case of me saying I want to go here, I’m not playing, I want to leave the club.
“It’s just a case of me playing. I could understand if I was 19, 20 and I had time on my hands but I’m 29 now and, like I’ve always said, all I want to do is play football. It’s as simple as that.”
“As it stands I’m a Tottenham player and if I do play against Manchester City I’ll be fully committed. I’m sure everyone knows that at the club.”
It looks for certain that the England international is wanting out of London and the lack of a consistent goal scorer at Liverpool could speed up a potential move in the range of £10 million if Spurs will accept.
Liverpool also look to be on alert as former summer target, Blackburn Rovers defender Scott Dann after moving from Birmingham City this summer could make a dramatic second switch for around £6 million if the fee is offered by the Reds according to the Daily Mail.
Ghanasoccernet.com has listed the Reds as on the verge of signing Ghana 18-year-old midfielder and U20-international Mumuni Abubakar.
