Publisher EA has revealed that pre-order numbers for BioWare’s upcoming role-playing game, Mass Effect 3 are above and beyond where they were at with Mass Effect 2 at the same point before launch, back in 2010.
Though, the company hasn’t said exactly by how much, specifically, this is still good news for BioWare, regardless.
It also hints that gamers are willing to put down Bethesda’s Skyrim for a bit in order to focus attention on the next big RPG.
That aside, Will Graham, EA’s Product Manager, announced that pre-orders for the game have also outshined EA’s own internal targets.
“Online, print and outdoor advertising will help capture the mainstream audience,” Graham said. “For the core Mass Effect fan, we’ve been building on the immersive nature of the game with a host of trailers, social media activity and fan site activation.”
Some of these advertisments have taken the form of neat, yet intense, live action trailers for the game. Check out the most recent one here.
Also, to celebrate, the developer has created a fun “Space Edition” campaign where copies of Mass Effect 3 have been launched into Earth’s upper atmosphere on a historic first-for-video games-voyage (and hopefully one lands in Chicago somewhere). Fans have a chance to take home a piece of that history… if they manage to capture a copy, that is.
Mass Effect 3 is due out March 6th, 2012 and will be rated M for Mature. Also, make sure to keep an eye out for the $10 day-one DLC entitled “From Ashes.”
