Minnesota Golden Gopher head coach Jerry Kill wants guys with the right the character, attitude and passion. He also wants good football players that fit his system.
The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team signed 27 players on National Signing Day that the coaching staff hopes will fit those traits over their remaining eligibility.
Here is one of those recruits; defensive end Alex Keith.
High School: Hickman High School
Hometown: Columbia, Missouri
My analysis: I had limited viewing of him. He has a quick first step off the line of scrimmage – did a good job of avoiding blockers in high school – has the potential to be a quality pass rusher.
GopherSports.com overview: Listed as a two-star prospect by Rivals.com, Scout.com and ESPN – ESPN also listed him as the No. 19 player in the State of Missouri and the No. 192 defensive end in the nation – active, physical defender is usually around the football – good initial burst – holds his ground and knocks blockers back when he fires out low and shoots his hands – good motor and hustle – good speed and range.
GopherSports.com High School Highlights: Helped lead Hickman to its first state playoff berth since 2004 as a senior – earned Class 6A First-Team All-State honors following the 2011 season – also an all-district selection following his senior campaign for the Kewpies – second-team all-state selection as a junior – recorded 67 total tackles, including 22 tackles-for-loss and 12.5 sacks in his final season of prep football – also tallied five forced fumbles and recovered four loose balls in 2011 – saw action as a tight end/wide receiver as well during his senior season, catching five touchdown passes – tallied 75 tackles, 7.5 sacks, four blocked kicks and three forced fumbles as a junior – coached by Arnel Munroe.
