Comments posted on the Spartacus Facebook page after the Season 2 premier last night vary, but most fans are maintaining a “wait and see” attitude toward the new Spartacus, Liam McIntyre, who replaced the late Andy Whitfield. Whitfield, the original Spartacus, died of cancer in September. The comments can be found here.
An ambivalent “wait and see’ attitude means McIntyre did not nail the role of Spartacus. He did not seamlessly fill Whitfield’s shoes. Nor was he fully believable.
But most fans are giving him a chance to prove himself. They are allowing McIntyre time to grow into the title role and themselves time to adjust to the change. Mainly because they do not have a choice, there is no bringing back Andy Whitfield, so regardless of who Starz cast as the new Spartacus, an adjustment period was going to be necessary.
But how long will it last? How long before the “wait and see” folks become the individuals who are already saying McIntyre sucks and the show will fail with him at the helm?
Only time will tell.
