Jack, Melissa, and their son Nat have just moved into a new home in what appears to be a wonderful suburban community. Adjusting to the move, Jack and Melissa watch as their son evolves into the harbinger of the Apocalypse, expected to take place on Nat’s 11th birthday on 11/11/11.
Jon Briddell (Jack), Erin Coker (Melissa), Hayden Byerly (Nat), Tracy Pulliam (Janice), Madonna Magee (Annie), David Bertolami (Chris), Rebecca Sigl (Sarah), Lauren Webb (Rhonda), Aurelia Scheppers (Denise), Kari Nissena (Sofie).
For an Asylum film this one is better than most. The plot actually has a little bit of setup before jumping into things which helps. Still, things aren’t explained well and we are left to guess about why a lot of things are happening. Some hardly seem connected, such as the strange bike boy who visits with Jack. The story does develop a mild level of suspense keeping it at least a little entertaing though it is still quite a sleeper. An ending that feels like it leaves things hanging doesn’t help much.
Acting was a mess in this one with Briddell and Coker both feeling out of place. Byerly was marginally better but couldn’t carry the whole thing himself. Pulliam overacted her way through this one, adding very little to the quality. The remainder of the supporting cast felt inexperienced and emotionless.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were decent but could have had better attention to detail and brighter shots. Effects were mild but decent. Dialogue was limp, lifeless, and didn’t do much to help the story. Sound and soundtrack were mediocre at best.
Overall 11/11/11 is a good concept with poor execution. The film just never develops the energy needed to make it good and suffered from cheap, poorly done technical work from several aspects. If you like your horror mild and don’t mind plot inconsistencies this one is for you.
With blood and violence this one should be fine for older teens and above.
11/11/11 is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
