John has just committed a bank robbery that went very wrong. With the police hot on his trail he decides to add home invasion to his list of crimes, crashing a dinner party in an upper-class neighborhood. He also gets more than he ever expected from his surprised host.
David Hyde Pierce (Warwick), Clayne Crawford (John), Megahn Perry (Simone), Tyrees Allen (Roman), Annie Campbell (Chelsea), Cooper Barnes (Rupert), Helen Reddy (Cathy), Indira Wilson (Monica).
The Perfect Host is a perfectly enjoyable film that goes in several different directions. Character development is intermittent and required due to the storyline which morphs almost into separate plot lines. When John encounters Warwick and finds he is a complete psychopath we believe the rest of the film to be nicely set. Surprisingly, the film then delivers twist after turn taking us on a fun, wild ride we never expected. Definitely a sleeper film worth watching.
Acting from Pierce was nothing short of brilliant and it is obvious his full abilities have never been entirely utilized. Crawford played against Pierce well, bringing good reality to the film and keeping it from becoming surrealistic. Perry, Allen and the remainder of the supporting cast did well rounding out the film nicely.
Camera work, sets, and backgrounds were good with nice attention to detail and enough varied settings to keep things interesting. Physical effects were nicely done and appeared quite realistic with nice detail and good blood scenes. Dialogue was interesting and unusual without being confusing and fit the film well. Sound and soundtrack were both well done.
Overall The Perfect Host is a very well done psychological thriller that is much more entertaining than the title would suggest. Well worth viewing if you are a fan of the genre or of David Hyde Pierce.
With foul language, plenty of violence and mildly disturbing material, and sexuality save this for the oldest teens and above.
The Perfect Host is no longer showing in any Littleton Colorado movie theatres.
