How is it that something so small needs so much stuff?
Before baby it was simple – grab a small, adorable, chic bag and go. But now with baby in tow – no more, because all the baby stuff just doesn’t fit. Not only is it a challenge to juggle the baby, the stroller, the car seat bucket and what now feels like a suitcase for all of the baby products, gear and supplies but trying to be stylish, organized and functional too.
If you’re a first time mom The Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack Diaper Bag is just what you need. The adjustable straps easily go from a backpack or over the shoulder to hooking to the handle(s) of your stroller, simply and easily. Everything has a place and stays organized. The coolest part is “when it’s time to change the baby, you just set the bag right on the changer; unzip and fold out the detachable, washable changing pad; lay the baby down on the pad and get started. It has pockets for diapers and wipes – everything is at your fingertips,” explains Amy Fisher, owner of Little Orange Fish in Grapevine.
Now if you’re not into the traditional ‘diaper bag’ then any stylish tote works too. “There are so many chic colors, fabrics and textures and styles available. You don’t have to fret over having to carry a ‘mommy bag’ along with your purse. You can actually incorporate your purse and diaper bag into one, and be stylish too,” explains Paula Connor, Southlake.
The best advice around is from a mom who knows, mom of three Jenny Warden, Southlake, when picking a diaper bag, “just make sure it doesn’t look like one!”
Once you have your bag… here are some tricks to keep you organized:
Tip:Use carabineers (rock climbers clips), found at most sporting goods stores. How to: tie toys together with any ribbon; attach the ribbon to the carabineer; and clip it to the handle or side of any bag. If you clip it just above a pocket you can tuck toys into the pocket too. The carabineer can clip easily from bag to car seat to even your child’s belt loop. Viola…happy baby and no lose toys rolling around…organized, stylish and functional.
Tip: Use separate make-up bags or smaller bags to organize:
1.One for you for your wallet, cell phone, make-up, etc.:
2. Another for a few diapers, wipes, a small powder and diaper cream and;
3. A third for Sippy cup or snacks – make sure this one is plastic, incase your Sippy-cup drips or leaks.
Tip:Always keep two or three extra Ziploc bags for dirty, smelly diapers or other soiled items.
